About Knowledge Guides
Knowledge Guides was started in 1993 by James Pipkin in Arlington, Texas. While in graduate school, Mr. Pipkin tutored college students in math at a nearby community college. Mr. Pipkin has authored two books on the subject of being prepared for college. These include "The Parent's Guide to the SAT and ACT" and "SAT Strategy Guide."
Mr. Pipkin, an alumnus of UT Austin(BA in History, 1991), had been required to take a remedial math course in college to overcome a subpar math background. He had not taken Algebra II or Geometry in high school. Although overcoming this deficiency was not easy, Mr. Pipkin discovered that he did have mathematical aptitude as well as a knack for teaching. Most importantly, he gained first-hand insight into the process of overcoming a mathematical deficiency.
This knowledge of how to help students overcome skill gaps and develop academic strengths is part of the philosophy and approach at Knowledge Guides.
Knowledge Guides has a staff of 10-15 tutors available for tutoring in your home or at our location. Our tutors include certified teachers, graduate students, and professionals. Each tutor has a strong background in the subject they tutor and has demonstrated strong teaching skills.
